While most large corporations in the media industry are all US based, there are some that are some large foreign corporations. Bertelsmann AG, the largest non US media giant, is a perfect example of this. This shows that the company operates in 63 countries and employs more than 100,000 people. With operation in every form of media, Bertelsmann AG is extremely powerful. With Random House, it is the world’s biggest publisher in books and publishes magazines all across Europe, including the magazines Femme and Prima. They also own tons of TV and radio stations across the world.
I think Bertelsmann AG is an interesting company to look into. 63 countries does make it a huge global force and like you said, they employ a large amount of people. Seeing as how they are also versatile in their forms of media, Bertelsmann AG might be a company we should focus our attention on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post, Stephen! I couldn't really open the annual report that you linked- I kept trying to let it load. I wish you would have given us a little more analysis on the report- especially since I can't seem to open it myself, at the moment. Still- this shows really good, clear reasoning as to why Bertelsmann AG is a serious industry player competing with US companies.
ReplyDeleteGeneral Electric Co. operates in the same way. The reason for its worldwide impact on media is because it operates in almost all media fields.
